Use Red Hook’s street grid to reach Louis Valentino, Jr. Park and Pier, then return through nearby blocks. This small loop focuses on one public harbor viewpoint rather than promising a continuous walk through the working waterfront.

Route overview
Van Brunt Street south → Coffey Street west → Valentino Park and Pier → Ferris Street → Van Dyke Street east → Van Brunt Street north. The pier is a pause and turnaround, not a through-route.
Begin at Wolcott and walk south on Van Brunt toward Coffey Street. Notice the mixture of storefronts, residences and working buildings. Remain on the sidewalks and be attentive at loading areas.
Turn toward Valentino Park
Turn right on Coffey and continue west toward Ferris Street. Enter the public park at the waterfront. Use this point to distinguish the open park from neighboring industrial or private properties.
Visit the pier when open
Walk out onto the public pier if access is open, then return to the park. Look across the harbor without expecting every distant feature to be visible. This is the waterfront portion of the route; do not continue along restricted shore edges.
Return through Van Dyke Street
From the park, use Ferris Street south to Van Dyke, turn east to Van Brunt, and walk north to Wolcott. If a sidewalk segment is blocked, retrace Coffey rather than taking an unsigned passage through a property.
Getting there and terrain
Arrival and departure
Plan transport to Van Brunt Street; do not assume a subway station is immediately beside the pier. Check the MTA planner or ferry operator for your actual arrival and return.
Street crossings, uneven sidewalks and an exposed pier. Freight activity and driveway crossings require attention even when streets look quiet.
These notes describe the suggested route, not an accessibility certification. Check official access information for the entrance and facilities you need.
Practical tips
The waterfront is interrupted by working properties; follow the named street loop.
For a dependable return, retrace Coffey if the Ferris–Van Dyke connection is disrupted.
Use public park space for breaks and avoid loading zones.
A shorter option
Walk from Van Brunt and Coffey directly to the pier and return along Coffey.
Maps and source information
Use these official or local operator resources for maps, public-space information and changing notices. The sequence of stops and estimates above are Brooklyn Walks’ suggested itinerary.
Walk south through the park’s riverfront spine from Pier 1 to Pier 6. This route emphasizes the changing shoreline and pier landscapes; it does not include DUMBO’s street grid or a bridge crossing.
About 1.5 miles · 45–70 minutes Easy · mostly level paths
Follow the harbor-side path south from the Bay Ridge Avenue pier toward the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. This is a linear waterfront walk, distinct from the upper Shore Road park paths and their neighborhood entrances.
About 2 miles · 50–75 minutes Easy · long exposed stretch
Link Domino Park with the Northside waterfront using Kent Avenue. The important planning detail is that this is a sequence of parks connected by streets, not a continuous shoreline path through every property.
