Start with these walks
A short riverfront outing, a neighborhood loop, or a longer park circuit: these three offer different ways to spend an afternoon.
Waterfront · Brooklyn Heights & DUMBO
A compact route through DUMBO’s street grid and riverfront spaces, with the Manhattan Bridge framing one view and the Brooklyn Bridge framing another. It stays north of the long pier walk in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
About 1 mile · 35–60 minutes
Easy · uneven streets
Neighborhood · Prospect Park & Park Slope
Compare Seventh Avenue’s commercial corridor with the residential blocks toward Prospect Park. This is a sidewalk architecture walk, with a climb toward the park edge rather than a circuit inside the park.
About 1.5 miles · 45–70 minutes
Moderate · uphill blocks
Park · Prospect Park & Park Slope
Follow the park’s main drive circuit for a substantial loop with a straightforward return to your starting point. Long Meadow and the lake provide reference points; woodland side paths are optional excursions rather than necessary turns.
About 3.4 miles · 80–110 minutes
Moderate · rolling hills
Know what you’re choosing
Every route lists a start, finish, approximate distance and time, terrain and a shorter option. Times allow a few brief pauses; long stops and transit are extra. A one-way distance doubles if you retrace it. These are editorial planning guides, not surveyed trails or live directions.
Read how the guides are prepared and check the official map or operator notices linked on each route before setting out.
