Route overview
Washington Street → Water Street → Main Street Park → Pebble Beach → Empire Fulton Ferry → Fulton Ferry Landing. Street crossings separate the neighborhood portion from the park paths.
From York Street, head downhill on Washington toward Water Street. Look toward the Manhattan Bridge from the sidewalk. The familiar bridge view is on an active street: do not stand in traffic to reproduce a photograph.
Reach Main Street Park
Turn right on Water Street toward Main Street, then use the signed park entry to reach the waterfront. Follow the path toward Pebble Beach for a low view across the river. Stay on the path rather than assuming the stones are a walking surface.
Continue through Empire Fulton Ferry
Follow the connected waterfront paths west toward the Brooklyn Bridge and the carousel area. The change from streets to landscaped riverfront is the main point of this short route. Use posted detours if a section is closed.
Finish at Fulton Ferry Landing
Continue to the river end of Old Fulton Street. This is the finish, with another angle on the Brooklyn Bridge. For a longer walk, follow the separate Brooklyn Bridge Park guide south from Pier 1.
Getting there and terrain
Arrival and departure
Use Washington and York as the street-level start. Plan transit to DUMBO with the MTA trip planner; check station accessibility separately from park accessibility.
Sloping sidewalks, cobbled sections and busy crossings occur before the mostly paved park paths. Pebble Beach is not required to complete the route.
These notes describe the suggested route, not an accessibility certification. Check official access information for the entrance and facilities you need.
Practical tips
Keep the Washington Street viewpoint brief when the sidewalk is busy.
This is a public-space route; the carousel and other paid attractions are optional.
For an out-and-back, retrace the park portion rather than adding the bridge crossing unexpectedly.
A shorter option
Start at Main Street Park and finish at Fulton Ferry Landing to omit the street-grid portion.
Maps and source information

Cross the East River above the traffic on the bridge’s pedestrian promenade. This is a point-to-point crossing, with a clear Brooklyn street-level finish; DUMBO is an optional continuation rather than part of the stated distance.
About 1.5 miles · 45–75 minutes Moderate · gradual climb
Walk south through the park’s riverfront spine from Pier 1 to Pier 6. This route emphasizes the changing shoreline and pier landscapes; it does not include DUMBO’s street grid or a bridge crossing.
About 1.5 miles · 45–70 minutes Easy · mostly level paths
Combine Montague Street with the elevated promenade and a return through residential streets. This route gives you skyline views without a bridge crossing or the descent to Brooklyn Bridge Park.
